That's What I Like About You

My day started out great!

I gotta say, as much as Richie and I love blocks, Jonathan really, really, really loves the train set.  All morning he made gentle train sounds, including, "Toot! Toot!"  and "All Aboard."  It was bliss to my ears.

Lots of people napped after church.

Papa picked up Mel and Matt after their meetings.  Sammie had given some thought to an earlier conversation with Matt and had some playlist ideas ready for his band.

Matt was writing as fast as he could.   Sammie gave a lot of great suggestions, such as, "Motown is the greatest music.  It's timeless and will entertain crowds forever."  He did ask Matt to be mindful of his race and to know his limitations.  At one point Sammie drew a blank on the name of a song.

Bradley, silent as any kid can be who doesn't want to be noticed that he's using technology, quickly offered up, "That's What I Like About You."  It was a moment, for sure.

Pretty soon we began focusing on the main event.

The fact is -- there was a lot going on this afternoon.

I normally grill steaks around here.  Sammie politely offered, well,  no, that isn't what happened.  Sammie insisted on cooking the steaks in the BGE.  I don't know what my problem was, because I've eaten steak he's cooked before.  I gave in.

In the meantime, Melanie practiced.  She has some beautiful music and I love to hear her play.

And, I always knew where Jonathan was.  I just followed the sounds of, "Toot! Toot!" and "All aboard!"

Dinner was fabulous!

Sammie makes a wonderful steak garnish on the BGE.  It requires a tomato.  Fortunately Sammie found one in the fridge even though I told him I didn't have one.  I knew I had an onion.  I sliced them, he grilled them.  Last week I had pulled a package of (pre-pandemic, truth be told) buffalo mozzarella from the freezer for a meal which didn't happen. Sammie used that, too.  We ate every bite.  Matt and Mel in particular raved.

We had mousse cake for dessert.

Bradley wasn't sure he was going to like this so he asked for half a piece.  There is no forcing this on anyone around here.  But he loved it.

Melissa chose a thoughtful gift for Melanie.

Melanie laughed and said she didn't have "two of anything" in her apartment.  She was thrilled.

I painted a card for Melanie.

I was pretty sure she was going to like it.

It came with a gift.

Then, finally, it was time for pool!  Don't worry about Richie.  We park him on a stool so he doesn't rearrange the balls for us.  And don't worry about Matt.  He loved my new cue.

Bradley was on Matt's team.  I could say a lot of things, such as -- the games were very competitive.  Or, maybe...well, I'm going to go with that.  I love pool.  I love my family.  Today was a great day.
